Lady and the Vamp - Mochelle Rowen

Janie Parker, the main character is a supernatural assassin who wa duped into working for the boss from hell. She sent out to capture a special jewel"eye" in order to save her sister. Along the way she meets up former vampire hunter and now a vampire Michael Quinn. After much arguing and fighting, the two end up together. This was a cute book. I liked her other vampire books as well. They are light hearted and take place in our "regular" world rather than some alternative universe or something which helps!

Cast In Shadow, Cast in Courtlight & Cast In Secret - Michelle Sagara

The library says....Kaylin, a Hawk who patrols and polices the City of Elantra, must face her greatest fear when children become the prey of a serial killer, forcing her to return to Nightshade, where she must team up with a powerful Dragon lord she knows she cannot trust.

This was a long book. It took me several tried to get into it but I finished it. I am going to try to next one. Definitely a fantasy world with diff characters and races.

I got the other two books after I finished the first one and they were much faster reads...a combination of knowing the characters and feeling better I think. It is definitely a fantasy world. They were interesting in their own and different from my usual reads. I enjoyed the last one the best I think getting to know Kaylin even better.

The Ring - The Last Night Templar's Inheritence by Jorge Molist

On her 27th birthday leading lady Christina receives an engagement ring from her boyfriend and a mysterious ruby ring from her godfather in Spain who has been deceased for many years. From there Christina learns of her shared inheritence with her male "cousins" in Barcelona from this mysterious godfather who killed himself. Upon her arrival in Spain Christina is drawn into a treasure hunt for the lost templar treasure her godfather and others died trying to find. Throughout the story while wearing the ring she suffers from nightmares and relives the past lives of those individuals who have also worn the ring. *I got it through the book after several put downs. It was okay but not great. The descriptions of Barcelona are nice but as a man Jorge does not provide his female main character with actions a female writer would have. It was not as the front cover suggests "an engrossing search for hidden treasure" but others may like it better.

Faefever - Karen Marie Moning

Wow - this third installment in the series started out slowly but ended with a cliffhanger on Samhaim. It did take me several chapters to get back up to speed with the characters and into this installment but from there I enjoyed the book. It did end with bang and left me wondering what happens to Mac in the end. This is the 3rd of 5 books so you may want to wait to read them all at one time once they come out. I love books that are series because I enjoy the characters growing and changing but I hate waiting to for the next installment! There was not even a sneak peek at the end of this one. This is "urban fantasy" with very little romance so far...I think Mac may end up with some romance in the last installments but right now she is going through lots of issues trying to find her sister's murderer and protect the city of Dublin from the Fae within it and those "bad" fae who are trying to escape their prison to end mankind. It does not make me want to visit Dublin anytime soon with its "Dark Zones" that people do not return from.

From Publishers Weekly...
Urban Celtic fantasy slides down a dark, depressing slope in bestseller Moning's third Fever thriller (after Bloodfever), centered on a hunt for the Sinsar Dubh, a black magic book more than a million years old. As All Hallow's Eve in Dublin approaches, the walls between the human world and Faery verge on collapse. Can former Georgia peach MacKayla Mac Lane prevent a total invasion of the Unseelie Court? Originally intent on avenging her sister Alina's murder committed by Unseelie Lord Master, Mac's now a power-player in the war between the Seelie (good Fae) and Unseelie (bad Fae), after learning she's a Celtic sidhe-seeker who can sniff out OOPS (Objects of Power). Meanwhile, the attractive V'Lane, a death-by-sex Fae, wants Mac's help in securing the Sinsar Dubh for his Seelie queen, Aoibheal. At the end, erotic shocks await Mac in Dublin's vast Dark Zone, setting up feverish—if wary—expectations for the next installment. (Sept.) Call of the Highland Moon - Kendra Leigh Castle

From Publishers Weekly:
Gideon MacInnes is next in line, among Scottish werewolves, to be the guardian of the Stone of Destiny, but he wants to see the world first. In northern New York, he's attacked by mercenary werewolves hired by his treacherous cousin, Malachi. Wounded and near death, Gideon flees to the doorstep of Carly Silver, who takes in the sad-looking animal and nurses it to health. When she wakes, the wolf has become a man. Carly reacts well, and her attraction to Gideon is immediate, but her life is in danger from the werewolf following Gideon. Carly's job as the owner of a book store specializing in romances won't go unappreciated. Some readers will want more pack dynamics and supernatural elements, but fans of straightup romance looking for a little extra something will be bitten. I thought the book was better than most of the posters on Amazon. I actually enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next book which I am pretty sure will include Regan (Carly's best friend) and Gabriel (Gideon's brother) somehow. I love Carly character and about her owning a romance bookstore (what a dream job!). I enjoyed Gideon as well but who does not love a handsome Scottish werewolf. The book definately does not have a lot of supernatural elements until things getting sort of crammed in at the end. Hopefully the next one will have more explanation of how the pack started, its past and why the stone is so important. Overall I thought it was good. It was about 373 pages in all so you do have to get into it to really enjoy it.

The Undead Next Door - Kerrelyn Sparks

Another good vampire romance book. The library review says "After helping Jean-Luc, a mysterious stranger, Heather Westfield finds her simple life complicated by her attraction to this charming man who is harboring a dangerous secret that could be the death of her. Original." It was good and fit in with Sparks' other books. Again we meet early characters and have a twist to happy ending. Easy nice reading even while I had the stomach flu! It takes place in Texas and has clothing design aspects to it. Its no Project Runway but it is cute and we can all imagine the runway shows after America's Top Model and Project Runway. There is also a reference or two to Sponge Bob Square Pants which Frank IV loves. Spong Bob is how he says it!

With Every Breath - Lynn Kurland

Another time travel in Scotland to go along with her books in this series. This was a new one. It was good and light reading. It takes place more in modern times which was nice for a change. You meet several older characters again. As always with a nice romance, the heroine gets her man in the end.

An Accidental Goddess - Linnea Sinclair

Futuristic romance taking place in outer space. Took me a while to get into it but it was enjoyable at the end. Heroine wakes up 340 years after her last battle to find she has been named a goddess and being worshipped by the race of people she was previously helping. Cute!

Vampire, interrupted: an Argeneau novel - Lyndsay Sands

If you like nice vampire and romance stories the Argeneau books are for you. I have read all of them and this is a good one where we learn much more about the Mother of the characters in the other books, Marguerite Argeneau who starts her job as a private investigator. We learn more about her and her family throughout the book along with a mystery and someone trying to cut off her head! I thought this was a great book and I have enjoyed all of the others in the series as well. They are funny as well and quick to read.

The Last Templar - Raymond Khoury

I stumbled into this hardback about the age old story of the Catholic Church and the conspiracy about Jesus, living as a prophet (man) or a divine being. It is no Da Vinci Code but I found it interesting. That one of main characters was female probably made it easier to relate to and read, especially since she was the skeptic and the male character was the believer. The story starts in New York and travels overseas in a search for a missing Templar Knight treasure that could topple the Catholic Church. It talks about the Agnostics, uniting all religions all while the characters try and find the secret code to find and decipher the treasure.

A Man in a Kilt, A Rogue in a Kilt and A Thief in a Kilt - Sandy Blair

This was a cute 3 book series about time travel in Scotland during the early 1400s. They were more romance than mystery which made for nice light reading. I enjoyed reading them. I read them quickly so they caught my interest and kept it.

Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews

This is the second book of a series by a husband and wife writer team that takes place in Atlanta after the merger (fall) of technology and rise of magic. The main character Kate Daniels is called upon to save the city and a young teenager she finds from destruction by a god from the Outer realm who is trying to enter Atlanta (and destroy it and mankind...) It is filled with magic, shifters, witches, vampires and other things that go bump in the night trying to live side by side with the non magic beings. It has more mystery than romance.

I have not read the first one (Magic Bites) yet but I have it on reserve at the library. I enjoyed the story, It was a quick read (260 pages) and I am looking forward to the first one and the third one coming out in Feb, 2009.

Starting a new book blog...

I love to read and I real all of time, whenever I can. I always have and I hope that I am always able to read. I have been trying to come up with a way to keep track of my books and talk with others who love to read, love the same books, hate the books I love, and just to be able to talk about books.
